2007 powerpoint bullets box appear as blank

I recently had an issue with my bullet points appearing as blank boxes
when trying to select one. Yet when I hover over the box it displays
the bullet type, but I can't see the character. This is the second
time it has happened and don't know what is causing the issue. To
correct it they re-imaged my PC. If I open Word I can see the bullets.
How can I fix this problem?
