2003-2007 updated holidays file not registering.

GloriaT.

Good morning.

I added a new calendar to my Outlook so that now there's
one besides the regular, default one. This calendar will
be kept blank and we'll use for printing purposes.

Within last month, my regular calendar was updated with
the 2003-2007 holiday file and so the holidays are showing
up in that calendar. Since they're not in the new one, I
re-installed the holidays, and when that didn't work, re-
applied the update holiday file. I closed Outlook and re-
opened and still nothing. I checked as far back as 1999
and nothing.

How can I fix this please? I'd really appreciate any help.

Thank you.

Holidays will install only to the default calendar. You can copy the
holidays from the one to any other calendars by displaying the calendar by
category, then drag and drop from one to the other.

Good lord, one by one??!!!!!!

If that's the case, that's going to defeat the whole
purpose of the printout. The regular calendar has all the
reminders on it.

Of course not. There should be one "Holiday" category. You can highlight
all items in that category (mine has only one item) and drag them all at
once to the other calendar.

Oh, phew! That's a relief <lol>.

You lost me though re the "category" issue. I
can "highlight all the items in that category ... and drag
them all at once to the other calendar". I decided to try
anyway though I didn't quite understand and ended up
moving one of the holidays completely. So I took it back
to the default one and then tried the 3 holiday listings
for that day and trying to copy them. Well, I copied them
alright, but only for those 3 items for that day.

So can you pls explain what you mean?

Thanks, would greatly appreciate it.

As with all items in Windows and Windows-based apps, you can select the top
item in a list by clicking on it. If you move your pointer to the last item
in a list and hold the Shift key while you click, you'll select (highlight)
all the items in the list. That's what I mean by "highlight all the items
in that category". You can also select only certain items in the list by
holding the Ctrl key when you click.

In Outlook (and in many Windows apps), if you left-click on a selected group
of items and drag them elsewhere, the action constitutes a "move" - putting
a copy in the destination and removing the original from the source. If you
right-click and drag, however, you'll get a pop-up menu allowing you to
choose "Copy", "Move", or "Cancel".

So, to copy all the entries in the "Holiday" category from Calendar A to
Calendar B, view Calendar A in "By Category" view, click on the first
"Holiday" entry in the "Holiday" category, hold the Shift key, and click on
the last item in the "Holiday" category. Then, right-click and hold on any
selected entry and drag the ppinter to Calendar B. Release the mouse button
and choose "Copy" or "Move", as appropriate to what you want to do.

I hope that's clearer.

It sure is. I didn't understand the terms you used in
relation to this operation, but I know these tricks and I
already tried that before posting the request for you to
explain them <sigh>. No matter which view I used, day or
month, nothing could be copied globally.

Never mind. What I've been finding, and to my great
disappointment, is that although up till now Outlook was
just one of the best programs for me out of the suite
(unlike Word, say), along with PowerPoint and Excel, that
Outlook is not holding up to serious use at all. After
years of using Outlook, have gone beyond regular use and
trying to use its other features and there have just been
_no_ end of problems. Just like this situation. I have
all the reminders at home and at the office in the default
calendar. But we needed to have the holidays so we could
print out, but my 20 million reminders get printed out,
too (I find "calendar" far superior to "tasks" for this
reminder purpose and have done so for years now). This is
_no_ good. And everything I've tried doesn't work in
trying to copy the holidays to the empty, new calendar.

I give up. Will have to find a more efficient way to get
our holidays. Too bad. Outlook leaves a lot to be
desired once you get beyond its basic levels of use. Very
disappointing.
