2000 is a mess

Hi

I hope someone can help us.

We have a windows 2000 server SP4 running Exchange.

No icons in control Panel.
Can't access the networking properties.
Can't install any Service packs or any other programs.
They just stop or freeze.
Can't stop services.

I tried last known good and that didn't help. Also try to
do a repair and that didn't do it. The users can access
there mailboxes and the server shows on the network. IIS
stopped and will not run.

When I go into safe mode I can see and access everything.
But when I try and reinstall sp4 is give an error. "can't
access Metabase"!

I did a virus scan and it came up fine.

What the heck happen???

Just a guess, but check the start status for the Logical Disk Manager
Administrative Service. It should be set to Manual. If it is not, change it
to Manual.

Concerning installing Service Pack 4 in Safe Mode, you will likely have to
uninstall the IIS component of Windows, install the Service Pack, and then
reinstall IIS.
