20 gigs of space missing

Greetings.
I have a samsung 160 gb hd, and I am well aware that companies count bits
and bytes differently so its never what it says on the box, but isn't 20 gigs
of space a little much?
I insert the install disk for windows xp and it doesn't even acknowledge it
as missing or unallocated. Any ideas to fix this?

11.8 GB is the nominal difference between the binary and decimal accounting.

Do you have Partition Magic or similar that can read the partitions and see if
you have some unallocated space on the HD? Some OEMs install a diagnostic
partition...

I believe that unless your installation CD includes SP1 or SP2
Windows will only be able to see 137 GB.

What does your BIOS see?
What exactly does Windows see?
What service pack level are you?
