2 Versions of XP

My computer crashed and I took it in for repairs. They "wiped" it clean and
re-installed XP Home Edition. When it boots-up,the first window shows 2
Versions of XP. I have to click one in 30 seconds or it will then continue to
load. I'm not use to this and was wondering if there is anyway to eliminate
one of them?

Here are 2 ways :

1. Start > Run
Type msconfig > Click OK
Go to "BOOT.INI" tab
Click the button "Check all boot paths"
Follow the instructions to remove the invalid line.

2. Click Start > Run
Type "notepad \boot.ini" (Without quotes) > Click OK
Click on "Format" menu and untick "Word wrap"
Now remove 2nd line below [operating system] section
Click File - Save

As a precaution, no matter which step you choose, run the first step again.

Finally, Click Start > Run > Type "\boot.ini" > Click OK
It should be like :

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional"
/fastdetect

there is a way to eliminate one of them, but be sure you eliminate the right
one, as it could mean a loss of your OS.

my computer > system properties > advanced tab > startup and recovery...

there is gives you options of what OS you want started up as default, time
to wait(30 seconds to choose ) your OS.

I had this same problema year or so ago, and when i secured the right OS, i
manually formated the partition that the other was on.

Hope this is of some use.

First - they did not ""wiped" it clean " - doing so would result in loss of
all data (unless backed up) and all applications would have to be
reinstalled and there would be no option to select one of two XP
installations.
If your computer is working to your satisfaction, the boot problem is at
most a minor nuisance.

Contact the shop that did the installation and asked why they did not edit
the "boot.ini" file. If they do not know what the "boot.ini" file is - get
another repair shop!

BTW - your post is one of ,many similar posts - you will probably get
detailed instructions on editing the file yourself.

From Start | Run type in msconfig, click Ok. On the boot tab check the
option to check all boot paths. If there is only one installation it should
highlight the invalid entry and offer to delete it.
