Here's how to set up an infrared network between two computers in
Windows XP. You have to designate a "Host" computer and a "Guest"
computer, but it doesn't matter which computer is which.

Follow these steps on the Host computer, clicking Next at the end of
steps 1-6.

1. Open the Network Connections folder and click "File" | "New
Connection".
2. Select "Set up an advanced connection".
3. Select "Connect directly to another computer".
4. Select "Host".
5. Select the infrared device.
6. Select the users who can connect to the computer.
7. Click "Finish".

Follow these steps on the Guest computer, clicking Next at the end of
steps 1-6:

1. Open the Network Connections folder and click "File" | "New
Connection".
2. Select "Set up an advanced connection".
3. Select "Connect directly to another computer".
4. Select "Guest".
5. Specify the name of the Host computer.
6. Select the infrared device.
7. Click "Finish".
8. Enter the user name and account to log onto the Host.
9. Click "Connect".

Now, determine the IP address assigned to the infrared connection on
each computer:

1. Right-click infrared connection in the Network Connections folder.
2. Click "Status".
3. Click "Details".
4. The "Server IP address" is the one assigned to the Host computer.
The "Client IP address" is the one assigned to the Guest computer.

To access the other computer over the infrared network, type the other
computer's IP address in the Start | Run box in this format:

\\w.x.y.z

You can also map a network drive, specifying the other computer's name
as its IP address: w.x.y.z.
