2 HD controller cards in 1 PC

Hi, People. I have need for a 2nd PCI IDE controller card
in my PC which runs WinXP. I have already bought a 2nd
card of a different make than the 1st (I heard that the driver
can get confused if they're identical cards). Having already
installed the 1st card, how does one install the driver for the
2nd card and designate it for use with the 2nd card?

BTW, does anyone actually know if the driver really does
get confused if both IDE PCI cards are identical?

XP is 'plug and play'.

WHen you plug in a 'new' device Windows 'plays' with it...or the goal of
Plug and Play is to create a computer whose hardware and software work
together to automatically configure devices and assign resources, to allow
for hardware changes and additions without the need for large-scale resource
assignment tweaking. As the name suggests, the goal is to be able to just
plug in a new device and immediately be able to use it, without complicated
setup maneuvers.

So your second IDE controller will have Interrupts [IRQ], I/O Range, Memory
Range etc assigned to it and be differentiated from the first by these
assignments - even if of the same model and type.
