I installed Vista Ultimate 32-bit. I get a score of 5.6 (for CPU operations
per second, everything else scores 5.9!). I also did a second install of
Home Premium, on a difference partition on the same physcial disk (this was
a test install, I've deleted it now). This install scored 5.7 for the CPU.

Why would two almost-identical installs have two different scores for the
same CPU?

Because 5.6 and 5.7 are essentially the same.
You may have moved the mouse on one or had some network traffic and it could
have just pushed a 5.7 to a 5.6.
