2 DC's - what if one goes down

HelpPls

Hi all -

I have 2 DC's in my environment (1 W2K, 1 W2K3). If one DC goes offline,
will my XP Pro clients who were authenticated by the now off-line DC be
required to log-off, log back on?

Thanks - Sean

They will, however, see an annoying "hang" of their system... I hate
when that happens (to me, not users :p).
They will? Why? This should not happen.

Just to jump in -

You might want to consider making both DCs a Global Catalog Server as well
as a DNS Server and make sure to update your DHCP Options to reflect both
DNS Servers ( Option 006 ).

The Global Catalog Server point will help if you use Exchange 2000 /
Exchange 2003. Assuming that you have only one GC in your environment if
the one DC that is the GC goes down then you will experience some "Outlook"
issues.

All -

I just wanted to say thanks for all the advice. I will be demoting the W2K
DC tonight and let you know if something goes sour.

Thanks again - Sean
