18 Second delay when opening all of a sudden?

Hi, does anyone know why IE would all of a sudden take a full 18 seconds to
open whether it was a url that was clicked on, or double clicking the icon?
it used to work fine, but all of a sudden, this happened. I am running XP SP2
with 1 gig of Ram. I have run spy sweeper, and Norton's antivirus as well as
Nortons Win doctor, but nothing helps. can you?
thanks.
Jim.

Hi Jim :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Clearing the TIF Cache -
Safely Delete the Temporary Internet Files
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

or.......

It could be a corrupted cache. Delete the Temporary Internet Files folder
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

NOTE: If TIF is much larger than 50 MB, IE starts to slow down because it's
actually faster to get the information from the Internet than to find it in
TIF. In addition, you start losing the ability to save pictures as anything
but a BMP and you lose the ability to View | Source. Unfortunately, as far
as I know IE still by default grabs some percentage of the drive for TIF and
for large drives this is way too much. 50 MB seems to be about the best.

Hope this helps.

Hi Jan,
Unfortunately I had tried all of your suggestions to no avail. However,
there was another post the day after mine asking a similar question, and a
gentleman named bob mentioned that he had the same problem after taking the
Java "J2SE runtime environment 5.0 update 6" and after uninstalling it, he
went back to normal. so I tried that, and VOILA!!! it works fine now. :)
thanks for the help though.
