16-color display in certain full-screen games

Hi all,
I just installed Civilization 4 and when the game goes into full-screen
mode, the image displays in 16 colors only. However, when the game
loads and there's only a small window on the screen, it displays fine.

This happened before with certain of the GameHouse small games
collection. Some games started in full screen mode, but the image was
16 colors, or very bright as to burn the colors, I don't know how to
describe it. So, you could hardly distinguish anything on the screen.
As soon as I enable the games' 'Run in window' mode as opposed to full
screen, the image displays right.

I changed 2 monitors, and I can tell this has to do with the video
card. Any advice besides "Change your video card" ?

Try uninstalling the drivers, cleaning the registry & hard drive of
all traces and reinstalling the drivers again. Perhaps it was a bad
install.

Another thing to try is to regress to an earlier version of the
Catalsyt drivers. Since your card is a 9700 you probably aren't going
to miss much in the latest driver sets anyway. I'd say try v5.13 or
earlier and see if you have better luck.

Oh, and I almost forgot...patch your games up to date, too. Civ4
wasn't exactly bug-free out of the chute....but these days, what game
is?
