Hi

Your autoexec.nt problem is most likely caused by a worm or by
AVAST (antivirus software).

To solve the problem:

Error message when you install or start an MS-DOS or 16-bit
Windows-based program
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324767

You can put back the standard version of autoexec.nt/config.nt by
copying a backup copy held in %windir%\repair\ to %windir%\system32\
(%windir% is typically C:\Windows) instead of using the procedure in
the KB article above.

Could be caused a trojan or something similar, e.g.
TrojanDownloader.Win32.Dia.a, more about this here:
http://groups.google.com/[email protected]

Also, AVAST (antivirus software) can be the cause if you
have WinXP SP2 installed:

Kade tried to pull him up for the stats sheet via the internet and he didn't
show. As for 'our' private pre-noted/said war, will opt for a Christmas
Card, either way!)

I was getting the same things on a couple of programs I was trying to run.
When I looked in the system32 folder there wass NO autoexec.nt! I put it
back from the repair folder...now its all working ok. My question is where
did it go? Would a trojan or virus remove it completely?

Cheers
Rob.

Yes. A trojan can cause this problem, so make sure you have a
full-featured current version (not earlier than 2003) antivirus
installed. Make sure your subscription for virus definitions is also
current and the definitions are updated. Do a scan in Safe Mode.

It has also been reported that Avast Antivirus can cause this problem.

Another strike against Avast Antivirus! I cross-posted to 98 general
newsgroup because users have posted how great Avast antivirus is and I found
it to be a poor antivirus program. Better to stick with AVG.
