16 bit windows subsystem

Good Evening, I am in need of some help that i need to fix for a friend. She
runs Windows 2000 NT. When trying to set up a program the following error
comes up. " The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft
windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application." I
thought i would enter the windows 2000 installation disc and do a repair, but
instead i thought i would ask because that may not be the solution. If that
is the solution i would like to know if i will loose my music.

I appreciate any help i can get.
