16 bit subsystem problem

i'm trying to run a cobol compiler on my computer but i keep getting the
following message; c:windows\system32\autoexec.nt: the system file is not
suitable for runnig ms-dos and microsoft windows applications.
can anyone help me out?.

Will, thanks for the reply to Janette's query. I had the same one and was
very happy to see your help. The 16-bit program I want to install is on my
hard drive. Will this solution allow me to install it as well? I'm asking
because I see in the solution that it talks about the CD drive. Thanks in
advance. Tim

Tim, the solution "works" as the cd drive in that article refers to
reinstalling the files from your Windows CD, but unfortunately, hasn't fixed
this prob on my computer yet. Try it just in case, though. Will post again if
I find an answer that works!

Clem- THANK YOU SO VERY VERY MUCH!!! I had the same problem and have been
scanning help groups all morning. I ran the xp_fix file and it immediately
fixed the problem.
