1 gig of free space on Win2000 server. C is partitioned to 4 gig, the drive is 40 total. Recommend

I have a Windows 2000 Server (not the advanced version). The machine
has a 40 gig drive, but only 4 gig is partioned for C:

There's only 1 gig of free space on C:

If I want to install more programs, that's going to get dangerously
low.

There is plenty of free space on the other different partition.

What is my best bet to increase the free space on the C: partiton?
Should the drive be repartioned with special software, change drives,
etc?

Our Microsoft certified networking specialists originally set up the
server up this way. I'm sure they must have had some reason for it
at the time.

I'm not even sure there's enough space to safely upgrade to Internet
Explorer 6. The only thing I use IE for on the server is Windows
updates. Eventually they will probably require version 6.

Speaking of which, are there any security risks in not upgrading to IE
6? I've installed all of the other Windows updates, even Service pack
4.

I've noticed a couple pesty pop up Ads. I'd like to install a program
to get rid of them. What is recommended for a Win2000 Server?

Can these pop up ads cause any real problems based on the info I
provided about the installed Windows updates?

Thanks.

Is there anymore free and unpartitioned free space on the machine itself

If yes, you can try using Volume Manager to repartition some more free space for drive C

If your space has been partitioned but the other partitions are still empty, you might want to remove the partition in order to achieve some free space to allocated to Drive C

As for upgrading to IE 6, there are no security risks at the moment since you have also already patched to SP4 and installed all the security updates

Do you need to purchase Volume Manager or it comes with Windows?

Thanks.

Thanks for the replies.

The hard drive has been partitioned as C & D. The D partition is
about 36 gigs in size or so. There are several gigs of free space
available. There is no unpartitioned space on the server.
