1 computer, 2 monitors

Hi,
I've successfully installed a second video card to my system to attach
another monitor that I want to Clone. Both monitors work fine, but only when
"Spanning" between the two. I want to be able to have each monitor show the
exact same info at the same time. But the option "Extend my Windows
Desktop..." is greyed-out for the Primary monitor (1), and if I uncheck
"Extend my Windows Desktop..." for monitor 2 it becomes "unattached". Note,
I'm able to use either monitor as the Primary, and span between the two. I
just can't clone them. I've been told by both PNY Tech and my local computer
store this should work fine.

Display 1 GeForce2 (AGP) --> 21" crt

Display 2 TnT2-M64 (PCI) --> 15" lcd

Any suggestions? I've been playing with every single setting possible to
make this work.

Thanks!
Frank

If you want to have the same image on both monitors then I suggest you
purchase a "Y" video cable that has one male connector for the PC and
two female connectors for the monitors. Note that this will only
work if both monitors can use the same resolution and refresh rate
settings.

Belkin should have these cables available.

Good luck

This is generally a function of the video drivers for the card(s) that you
are using. Your best bet for this sort of thing is to use a dual-display
card such as the Matrox, or ATI, since their drivers allow for cloning or
spanning.

Hi,
But I've been told that the two cards I'm using should also allow for
cloning. No? Are you saying I have to have a dual-display card to clone two
monitors?

Thanks!

No, I didn't mean to imply that. Only that I KNOW from personal experience,
having used both the Matrox dualhead cards and now the ATI Radeon dualhead
cards, that their drivers allow cloning rather easily. I do not know about
the options available to you with the cards you are now using.

Hi MarkS, OK. I guess I went with two separate cards because I already had a
nice AGP card for my main monitor, so I just got a $40 PCI card for my
second monitor. I'm assuming the cheapest dual-display cards are over a
$100.00. But I guess I should look into it.

Thanks!

I had troubles with this. I used to have two cards, but now have one dual
output card. One thing you might try is switching which is monitor A and which
is monitor B while playing with settings.
