001 is displayed as 1 in the cell not 001

Format/Cells/Number/Custom 000

or

Preformat the cell as Text and enter 001

or

Prepend an apostrophe to your entry- '001


The latter two methods will cause the entry to be entered as Text rather
than numbers.
