Zoo Tycoon and Age of Empires trouble

Each time I try to install either game on my new laptop, the installation
screens freeze and I have to close the program. Are there any patches or
other routes of installation I can try?

I had a similiar problem with Creative Labs drivers for my sound card. I
had to download and install the latest Installshield. That fixed my
problem.

I downloaded the Software Manager, so should I try to install those things
again?
