zonealarm & McAfee

Just tried to download the latest Zonealarm update and was told there are
compatibility issues between it and McAfee Security stuff.

Any issues/solutions that anyone can point to?

That's because the new version of ZoneAlarm (in theory) includes their
own AntiVirus software.

No, I think you mean Zone Alarm's most recent version includes an anti-
virus software monitoring capability, in the sense that you receive an
alert when your AV software is shut down, perhaps by a virus.

As opposed to ZA having its own AV capability, as in a scanning engine
etc.

Correct me if I am wrong, obviously. I have no doubts that you will :)

I was a little confused (it happens)... they actually do have a new
program that does include both Antivirus and Firewall in one package.
However the standard ZoneAlarm Pro only includes AV monitoring, as you
mentioned. So in one sense, we were both right. I think you have to
upgrade to the full Internet Suite to get the whole nine yards.

Been a known problem for a while. Has nothing to do with the latest
Zone Alarm. Do a Google search and you will find some possible solutions,
although none worked for me. My Zone Alarm and Virus Scan worked together
fine for several years, then suddenly would'nt cooperate after a McAfee
update last year. I eventually had to scrap Virus Scan and have been using
AVG since, wondering how good a free anti virus app could possibly be, and
have been pleasantly surprised.

John .

It looks like Zonelabs is trying to compete with the NAV/Norton
Internet Security package, by offering their own ZA package.

There are now 4 versions:

Zone Alarm (free)
Zone Alarm with anti-virus (not free)
Zone Alarm Pro (not free)
Zone Alarm Security Suite (not free)

I use PC-Cillin at the office, and the latest version of Zonealarm
wanted me to uninstall it before it would run. Sure...

So I renamed the folders that PC=Cillin is in, then installed the latest
version of ZA, then fixed the folder names back to normal. No problems.
