Tommy

Hi

Zone alarm has completely messed up my server extensions

Is there a permission I can set on Zone alarm to allow FP to work correctly

Can anyone tell me is a firewall such as zone alarm required if using
windows XP

Thanks in advance

Your going to have to turn your firewall off when
publishing...not sure about zone alarms permmisions, but
nortons personal firewall has rules. And a firewall is not
required to use xp...but extra security is always good.

Thanks Bill
The problem also occurs on localhost
Pages not loading correctly Borders missing etc

If I was to uninstall zonealarm Does XP have it own firewall built in
and is the PC secure without zonealarm

Thanks Paul

Hi

Any chance you are using the newest version 5.0.590.015?
If so then it has some bugs where pages dont load fully etc
You can go back to 4.5 and that should fix it

Yes XP has a firewall... go to network connections, right click on
the connection and select properties then advanced

I have a firewall set up and it will not let any FrontPage
components pass thru. I am so used to turning it off when
publishing that it has become routine. Try right clicking
the icon on your taskbar to turn it off.

Interesting... I'm using the very latest ZA freebee with win2K and
haven't had any issues at all. I haven't tried the "pay me" version.

I was using the free version for around a year it worked perferc then

There have been a lot of discussions about this in the security and winxp
newsgroups. People are rolling back to the previous version like crazy.

I quite using ZA quite some time ago because of so many issues with our
company firewall, and at home with my router.

Any chance you're using McAfee also? I've gotten weird probs. like you
describe because of it's "script stopper" function, but I've never had a
problem with ZA.

I'm using the following, Norton Antivirus 2003 and Zonealarm 5.0.590.015
without any problems at all.

I've always kept up with the latest on both and never had a problem.
Zonealarm has never given me any problems.

Have you tried to uninstall Zonealarm then do a clean reboot then fresh
install and see if that helps you out any?

Hi

I did report this to Zonelabs last week and got this reply:
------------------------------------------------
We are aware of some issues with the latest version of ZoneAlarm and working
to have these resolved as soon as possible.
So far, the only fix for this issue is to uninstall ZoneAlarm Pro 5.0, and
then reinstall ZoneAlarm Pro 4.5.
------------------------------------------------

So it has bugs no doubt about that :)

I use Zone Alarm and Sygate firewall. I just have them set to warn of new connections, when the warning pops up you just click OK to let FP through and then there's usually a check box to "remember this setting" (or something similar)...no problem.

Zone Alarm has that kinda grid of permissions with check marks, red x's and question marks...set it for question marks.

I use Sygate all the time on this machine but the kids machines have Zone Alarm.
