Greetings --

It's a piece of crap utility installed along with Iomega's
utilities that's supposed to allow the Zip drive to be used in place
of the A: drive for booting. I always disable and remove it.

It's not in Windows 2000. It's part of the Ionega software install, along
with numerous other useless pieces. You don't need Iomega software to use
a Zip drive in Win 2K.

I know. That's why I was asking why it was even in Windows 2000? Their funky software is not necessary in Windows 2000. When Windows 2000 first came out Iomega went to great pains to offer up an update to their software to get their software in that Op sys. Microsoft even went so far as to offer such a hotfix almost the second day after it was released Retail. Then I guess someone at Microsoft said, "Hey! Wait just a doggone second here! The Zip drives work just fine in Windows 2000 without their crapware." And the hotfix disappeared faster then you can say, "What?"

There's a better way to do that if you have a copy of the icon file,
which you can extract form the software distribution without installing
anything. You also get automatic eject on shutdown, but I've live happily
without that for a long, long time.

Okay, I misunderstood. To me, "why is it even in Windows 2000" sounds
like you're asking why it is included in Windows 2000, which of course it
isn't. The answer to why was it installed on a Windows 2000 system is
most likely that most people don't know that it's unnecessary.

If you don't install the Iomega software, you won't have a program capable
of formatting Zip disks properly, but I've only ever wanted to do that
once. I solved that problem by booting to DOS. Iomega's DOS-based
software never causes any problems.
