Your questions about a new momitor

I don't believe you are looking. Your current unit is only 5 years old and
still shows half the picture!!

So, when your in a geek mood you looked at a monitor on the web. After going
all the way down into the bowels of the spec sheet you find that the monitor
has a shadow mask that allows a pixel pitch of 0.24 millimeters(mm) in the
horizontal and something greater in the vertical.

Well, a new Hypothetical model 1, 17inch monitor has a horizontal line is
about 33 cm. well:

33cm/.024cm per pixel=1375 pixtel per horizontal line.

You hop over to advanced settings and sure enough you can change to a higher
resolution than your 1024X768. You can move it up to a point and no further.
You also may loose the 4X3 aspect ratio that PC's use.

The monitor software sets these limits in the OS (XP in your case).

While you are in there you notice that 32bit color is mentioned. This is a
function of AGP aka video card. The video card has at least three RAMDAC's.
The size if the RAM in the RAMDAC is nX32 bits, They change the digital data
into analogue signals fed to the RGB wires going to the monitor. These
signals modulate the RGB portions of the pixel to create the color(s).

While you in there you notice a box that allows you to change the
DotsPerInch form say 96 to 120 DPI. This is an opportunity to make the
font sizes a little bigger i.e. letters and numbers are a little larger on
the screen.

You also see a chance to change your refresh rate to 75 FPS or higher from
60 frames per second. This is classical screen refresh to prevent flicker.
You might move it up in a high ambient light environment.

Next: Printer resolutions.
