Hello people.

Do you know any good freeware IRC clients?

I use Miranda IM's IRC plugin most of the time (that means: 24/7 ;).
Maybe I'll switch to X-Chat in the future, don't know yet...

Thanks for the update about the xchat windows version moving to shareware.

I have tried a few, and although I don't use IRC much, I prefer Visual IRC
(ViRC).

It's true that the "official" Windows XChat build now needs a
registration fee. There is, however, an unofficial build by
SilverEx (http://silverex.org/) that remains free.

The only disadvantage is that you have to install the GTK+
environment yourself, but this can be shared with other GTK
programs as, for example, the GIMP.

True you can install silverex version of xchat still free of charge. I have
also tried to avoid the whole Xchat issue since it happened, I promptly
removed it from my all my computers, but at the time of the entire problem
the Developer was saying things like there were certain changes he made to
the code himself in order to compile it a bit better than the standard code
base. I just had a huge disagreement with the sneaky underhandedness and
what I thought it had done to the gpl so I just find it better to avoid such
software.

I understood one can't compile the standard code base without changes, but
the guy who sells the shareware version is not the only one who knows what
to change, "SilverX" knows that too... :)
