Your advice for a newbie is needed

I have learnt Java and C++ before but I wasn't so succussful. This time I
want to be successful in ASP.Net. I'm dreaming of becoming a guru in web
development so I can't fail this time. So my question is how will you advice
me, because I'm known to be given up very easily? Do you think I will be
successful at all?

Many thanks in advance!

Genius is one percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration.

Whether you will be successful or not depends on how much
you are willing to work at it.

Sure I got that and you can trust I will give my 100% all, cos I badly want
to succeed... don't have any other choice.

There is always another choice. There is no such thing as a
bad choice -- different choices just have different outcomes.

Wow, it's like having your own on-line fortune cookie :)

Derfy, I would simply suggest you find a project to do for yourself or
someone else, and having them waiting for your solution will be your
motivation :)
It's almost impossible to learn something without a reason, so choose
something you want such as a football/cricket tracking or 'Dream Team'
site, a simple content management system, a "Rate My Fast Food" site, or
some other daft topic, and learn to program by building it.
The great thing then is that you can boast about it, and you never know,
people might even use it one day :)

Cheers,

Thanks, Gadget. It's too go know if I decide to leave application
development, I can get a job writing fortune cookies.

The guy asked if we thought he would be successful. Since that
comes from within, I just thought I'd give him something to think
about. How the heck are we supposed to know if he will be successful?
And why in the world would he listen to people who don't know him?

I know, it was a pretty daft question he was asking!
I just thought it was funny when you kept replying with proverbs :D
No insult intended.

He seemed to deserve some one-liners. (Here comes another one)
Ask a stupid question...

No offense taken.

Learning to write code has a way of chipping away at a person's self esteem
derfy. The secret to success is one word: persistence. To become inspired
you should read some biographies of people that became successful. You will
learn many of the most successful people failed again and again and again
and again. The only thing that sets them apart from others was persistence.

What's worse, it helps to have supportive family and friends. There are many
many people who will say anything and do whatever they can get away with to
"help" you fail. All too often they are family and friends. I don't have
family or friends who believe in me and I've been cheated and ripped off
several times by peers and colleagues. These are the cards some of us have
been dealt.

I live in Milwaukee and the entire region is full of people like that. We
can't do much of anything about them but we can do something about ourselves
so here's something I taped up next to my gear...

I WILL NOT QUIT

When things go wrong as the sometimes will,
When the road you walk seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing down a bit,
REST YOU MUST BUT DON"T YOU QUIT.

Life is dynamic with twists and turns,
As all of us must often learn,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out,
Don't give up when the pace seems slow,
YOU WILL SUCCEED WITH ONE MORE BLOW.

Success is failure inside out,
It masquerades as clouds of doubt,
You'll never know how close you are,
Its always near when it seems so far,
So keep your faith when hardest hit,
IT'S WHEN THINGS SEEM WORST WHEN LOSERS QUIT.

Finally, and most importantly for today Thanksgiving Day 2006 I try to be
thankful for what I do have while I have it.
