You are trying to send an email from address other than yours

Hi,

I have recently had to reinstall my PC and am getting a very annoying error
in Outlook 2003. It is fully updated.

Although I have no messages waiting to be sent in my 'Outbox', Outlook comes
up with an error on sending that says: Task 'Server Name - Sending' reported
error (0x800ccc0f) : The connection to the server was interrupted, If this
problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet Service
Providor (ISP). The server responded: 558 You are trying to send an email
from address other than yours. (#5.7.1)

I have tried looking for this error in the KB, and on these forums, but
can't seem to find anything. I am almost sure I have had an error like this
before, but just can't quite remember how I got it solved.

Any help with be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

Sounds like a relaying problem -- do you have authentication to your outgoing
mail server enabled?

Hi Jocelyn,

Thanks for replying to me, and sorry it has taken me so long to reply to
you, but I have once again been reinstalling my PC, and in the process,
trying to recreate this problem.

I have now come to the conclusion that I am almost positive what is causing
this problem with Outlook 2003.

When I receive an email from someone who has a read reply notification on
it, and I send the notification back to them, that is when this happens.
Outlook is trying to send the notification, but my SMTP server is not
allowing it for some reason.

Now I'm not sure if this is a problem with Outlook 2003, or if it is a
setting problem, or even something with my SMTP mail account. I was hopeing
you may be able to help.

Thanks once again,

Steve

Sorry Steve, hope you're still out there. I lost track of the thread.

Do you have diagnostic logging enabled? If not, read instructions for
turning it on here: http://www.outlook-tips.net/archives/2004/20040325.htm,
then post the log to the forum and maybe someone can help you diagnose the
problem. Good luck!
