Yet another duplicate folders problem

Keith MacDonald

There have been a number of reports of duplicate personal folders in this
news group, but no helpful responses so far. I hit the problem after
installing Office 2003 on a freshly created XP Pro system, then copying my
PST file from my old PC, which was running the same software. The old PC
previously ran Office XP, and there were no duplicate folders after
upgrading it to Office 2003.

This problem is on a per user basis, as it also occured after I copied a
virgin outlook.pst file, which was created when I first ran Outlook as
another user, but not when opened as that other user.

I've uninstalled Office, then manually deleted its folders from C:\Program
Files and C:\Documents and Settings\*, and its registry keys from
HKCU\Software\Microsoft and HKLM\Software\Microsoft, but the significant
information must be stored somewhere else. After reinstalling Office,
Outlook reported that it could not find its PST file, rather than creating
it, as it would after a fresh install. Any PST file I give it still has
duplicate folders.

If the guys from MS have no idea how to fix this problem, will they at least
let me know which other files or registry keys I need to delete, to make
Outlook think it's being started for the first time.

Thanks,
Keith MacDonald
