Do a google search on "Outlook Express". Refine it with "yenc". Then refine
it again with "plug-in".

But in the end it's not worth the candle. (Been there. Done that.) OE is not
the best choice for serious downloading of multipart binaries, whether or
not they've been yenc'd.

For binary downloading I use a yenc-enabled newsreader. (X-news
http://xnews.newsguy.com/ does a very nice job and you can't beat the
price.) I use OE strictly for text.

As much I like Outlook Express for text newsgroups, it's not really the best
choice for binary newsgroups, especially for those that use yEnc. If I were
you, I would investigate some of the other available newsgroup choices. Do a
google search to find them. They are usually freeware or shareware, so you
can try several to see which you prefer.

It's incomprehensible let alone inexcusable that OE doesn't yet support yEnc as
long as it has been used for binaries.

Actually I consider OE at the absolute bottom of the list as newsreader and
e-mail program. Agent is probably the best overall newsreader, but there are
good freebies as well. XNews is one of the best, and it fully supports yEnc.

XNews is available here:

And there's some good info on setup and use here:

http://www.slyck.com/xnews.php

There is admittedly a bit of a learning curve associated with XNews, but I've
yet to see a newsreader that's completely intuitive.

True, but from a personal statepoint, since I never use binary newsgroups,
it doesn't matter to me.

Your choice, of course. In my view, there is no best or worst, and it's
always a personal choice (as it is with almost any category of software). We
all work differently and have different likes and dislikes. And features
that you might consider necessary may be useless to me, and vice versa.

Agent was the first newsreader I ever used. I liked it well enough, but when
I tried Outlook Express, I liked it better because I preferred its interface
and because it fit my way of working better.Over the years I've tried almost
all the well-known newsreaders and keep coming back to Outlook Express,
which I continue to like the best, especially with the addition of
OE-Quotefix.
