Yahoo Messenger : Voice chat not available

hi all,

I'm not sure whether this is the good place to ask this, but I did not find
any more appropriate ng to post this pb; here it goes :

I use Yahoo Messenger (both current 5.x and nexw beta 6.0 versions) on both
an old w98 (yike !) PC and a newer laptop WinXP Pro. The point is that Voice
chat is only enabled on my w98 Pc, whereas not even a mention of it appears
on the wXP (no "enable Voice chat" menu, no "Voice Chat" icon , ...).

I suspect this is some HW or config detection that make y! messenger not
propose this feature in this particuliar context, though I did not found any
relevant tip on the internet.

My laptop is a HP/Compaq Evo N610C / WinXP SP2 / Audio card is an OEM
"SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio"

Any help welcome !

What versions Yahoo Messenger are you running on each computer?

Is the Audio Setup Wizard available on the Help menu on the WinXP YM?

Latest 5.x or Beta 6.0, smae pb with both

Yep - and it goes all the way through without any pb, it even congratulates
me ;-)

If you start a conversation with someone, what large buttons show up under the
regular Windows style File etc menu in the Instant Message window?

Your first post said "Voice chat is only enabled on my w98 Pc". Which version
of YM is that? Which version of YM has your problem? On which computers?
