[XY Scatter Charts] strange problems with X Axis data

Hi,
this is my first post on this newsgroup... so i introduce myself: i'm a IT
technician and i work for an italian enterprise (so sorry for my poor
english).

I experienced a strange problem with excel 2000: when i try to ceate a XY
scatter chart, Y series looks correct, but X series (data type is number) is
taken like text.

Eg:

X Y

1.5 5.3
2.3 11.4
blank cell blank cell
blank cell blank cell
7.8 18.4
23.8 3.4

(these data are selected using ctrl)

in the chart i see correctly Y but X values are:

1
2
3
4

and not

1.5
2.3
7.8
23.8

these values appears in the labels of the points.
If i change chart type... the chart is correct (both x and y are correct)

Someone can help me??

Thanks in advance.

My guess is that the "blank cells" are not really blank, but have a null
string instead. Delete the contents of the "blank" x-cells.

i haven't selected the blank cells... i've used 'ctrl' key to skip those
cells.

Did you really make a scatter chart, or is it a line chart? A line chart doesn't
care what the values are, it just plunks them down as text labels along the axis.
The difference between Scatter and Line charts is in the axis behavior, not in how
the points may be formatted, so it's generally preferable to make a Scatter chart.
