Is the windows xp cd a 'full' version or upgrade versions? if it is an
upgrade version you need either windows 98 or higher installed first on your
second drive before you can do anything.
If it is a full version are there any error messages appearing?
For that matter does your 'old' pc have the facility to boot from cd? This
may, in fact, be the problem.
You will need to check your Pc's Bios to see if the cd can be enabled for
booting. You will need the pc's manual to see how to enter the bios and
check for this.
Alternatively, and this may be better for you, download the file to create
the 6 windows xp bootup floppy disks from
www.bootdisk.com After you have
created the 6 floppy disks insert the xp 'full' version cd into your cd-rom
and insert floppy disk 1 into your floppy drive. Now reboot your machine.
The floppy disks will start the install process and then, when necessary,
the cd will kick in to complete installation.
If this works remember to install windows xp to your second hard drive 'not'
your first hard drive. I assume that is what you want to do. read the
onscreen instructions carefully because you will need to prepare the second
hard drive by creating a suitable partition and then formatting the new
partition.
Hope this helps
