XP2 upgrade and compatibility with Norton Internet / Anti-Virus

Just to note that I have finally managed to upgrade to SP2 only by
uninstalling NIS 2005. The previous two attempts w/o uninstalling NIS 2005
caused serious problems requiring the XP recovery disc.

This time I:
Ran all Spyware [Ad-Aware, Spybot, Microsoft Beta, CWS.....everything]
Unistalled NIS 2005
Downloaded to hard drive the FULL [250mb or so] version of SP2 from the XP
developers site [I was advised by a Microsoft technician to do this rather
than let Update do the bits it wanted to update]
Ran the upgrade programme from my hard drive

.....and hey presto, no problems.

Good luck.

I thought that anyone installing software on systems was told to disable
the antivirus products before they did an install - did either of you read
the document about what's needed BEFORE you install SP2?

NIS, is a PITA, but it would seem best to uninstall anything that does AV
for Firewall functions when installing a major SP, esp one that includes a
fireall feature.

My comment was not limited to SP installations.
