XP Workgroup Network

This is probably something easy that I am just not doing correctly but it is
driving me nuts! I have 3 XP Pro machines hooked up to a switch that I am
trying to network. I have made the workgroup the same for all the PC's but
they still cannot see each other. When attempting to view the workgroup
computers, I get a permissions error. All users are local admins. I cannot
ping any machine and cannot even ping myself. All computers receive Ip
addresses ok from the router and can get to the internet fine. Please hlp!
Thanks!

DouIn Network Connections, right click on your Local Area Connection and
select Properties. Click the Advanced tab. Make sure that the box for
Internet Connection Firewall is not checked.

Thanks for the reply! I don't have it enabled. I do have Norton Internet
Security, but I have it set up to trust the IP range. I have disabled it
anyway to test that already and I still was having the same problem....ughh!

Any other ideas??

Thanks.

I did not go thru the Network Setup Wizard on any of the machines when I set
up the network. I just manually set the workgroup for all. I take it this is
ok???

Use ipconfig /all to view network configuration on each computer to make sute that
all computers are on the same network which for a typical class c network with a
router would mean that the first three of the four tcp/ip octets need to be the same
[as in 192.168.0.xxx for example] and the subnet mask needs to be the same. It sounds
like a firewall, or an application is blocking access. Be sure to try pinging each
other by by IP address instead of just name and try pinging localhost or 127.0.0.1.
If none of that helps boot into safemode with networking and try again. If that works
you have some startup application/service preventing inbound network access. ---

Yes, manually configuring the workgroup is OK. Make sure that every user
account and corresponding password used on each machine is re-created on
each of the other machines. AND, I would uninstall Norton to get this
working - the 'disable' setting in this kind of software is frequently
wishful thinking.
