XP won't upgrade from ME

Alan Finger

Hi All,

I tried to upgrade a windows ME system to XP Pro (Full
edition) this afternoon. Setup refuses to upgrade -- it
will only do a new OS install. When I run the
compatability check it fails saying it can't upgrade
Windows ME to XP. All of the docs say it should be able to.

Has anyone else seen this before?

Thanks in advance,
Alan

Apparently, you bought an "OEM version" of Windows XP.
This version is not designed for upgrading....only "clean installs".
Only "retail versions" have the upgrade capability.
