XP wont recognise second parallel port

Having upgraded from NT to XP and having run a HP
DesignJet 330 and a Laser Jet 6L on NT on local parallel
ports, now XP wont recognise two ports, it will only
recognise one, both the printer and the plotter work fine
when connected to the motherboard plug, but neither will
work on the board plugged into the bus. the plug in board
appears to be ECP compliant and my Design software
(Solidworks) will recognise the security device plugged
into the plug on the board port plugged into the bus.
Device manager will only list one Printer port though...
Any ideas?
