XP Won't Boot after changing DNS settings

XP will not boot anymore after I assinged a DNS address, WINS address and a
DNS suffix to a new computer!!!! Any clue what might cause this?

Details: I just install a new disk on a PC. Brought the PC home to install
all the software (XP Pro, Service Pack 2). From home, I can connect to the
internet via my DSL line. Install Symantec (with lastest anti-virus), enable
the XP firewall. Can use the computer no problem.

Bring it to school, connect it to the network, change the DNS, WINS and
suffix settings to match those of the school and the computer won't boot
anymore. Can't even start in Safe Mode (with our without Networking!!!!).

The first time this happen, I ran dskchk, and recovered the PC to previous
setting (ie. before I changed the DNS). Try it again, the same thing occurs.
I am at a lost. How can changing DNS stop booting??? I could understand
not being able to access the network, but not booting??

It's hard to see how this could affect the boot up but it obviously has so
the answer is in restoring - again - to the position from which it worked and
then allowing the Network Setup Wizard to take account of the computers new
home and circumstances. If you can get it to reboot with the method you used
before, it might be interesting to see what ipconfig has to say before going
any further.

Because I am the school's computer department :)

This is a small private school and I (a parent) volunteered to take care of
the network.
