xp with IE very slow

recently my system slows down, to a crawl. I mean sometimes it takes several
minutes for a key stroke appear or change a page. This happens most when
playing a game on yahoo. But it has started to affect other sites as well.
Sometimes I get IE is not running, and I shut down and reboot, and I clear
all the temp files and cache. This did help for a couple hours then I would
start to slow down again, but the last couple days, it is slow from the git
go in the games, and other sights. I have run spy bot, and ad ware programs
and this has not helped. Any suggestion as to what I might try.
thanks

For starters you might review the event logs for clues and start up the task
manager to see what's running when it gets a case of the slows.

Thanks for the response, you talking to someone who knows very little about
software. Not sure what the event logs are, but regarding the task manager,
sometimes when I open it, it list the programs I have running, which maybe 5
or 6, sometimes it says one of the them is not responding. So either way, I
just close everything down, clear the temp files and reboot. Sometimes this
helps, but lately it has not.
Now one person I talked to said that maybe the virtual memory is over
loaded, being I only have 256ram, and that may need to be cleaned out. I
understand what it does but didnt know or do I know how to clear that if that
could be the issue.

Ron - I am not trying to hurt your feelings, but based on your posts the
best solution for you is to take the machine to a professional computer
repair shop (not your local version of BigStoreUSA) for diagnosis. Your
computer may be having hardware problems or malware or something else
entirely. It's going to need someone skilled to look at the machine. I'll
give you some troubleshooting links, but there is no shame in admitting
that computer repair isn't your cup of tea. I don't hesitate to call the
plumber or take my car to the mechanic.
