Can't get into windows update I get the above message.
Not knowledgeable enough to delve into registry editor or backup and restore
would a repair or windows correct the problem in Internet
Explorer, how is done. I am thinking doing a repair would be less hazardous
then tinkering blindly in the registry.

Have you tried posting to the Windows Update News Group:

Tried Windows Update Group. Some suggestions deal with the registry which I
am not knowledgeable enough to tackle. Have posted entries I found in the
registry under HKEY_MACHINE_SOFTWARE. Last entry refers to Post Platform of
which there two entries. Scrolling down the plus boxes is about all I am
able to do and not worrying about messing up.
