xp windows auto update troubles

We have Windows XP and have the box checked for updates.
Evidently it is not checking for them as we now have some
46 critical updates to download and do not have
broadband !!! Do you have any suggestions as to why
windows will not attempt to check for updates, and any
solutions as to how we can get all of these updates vs.
our pathetic 28.8 connection speed?

Sherie, you should be able to purchase a CD with all the updates on it. Go
to www.microsoft.com and look for one.

What box do you have checked? Where? In control panel---administrative
tools---services--is auto update enabled?
At any rate I suggest you click on windows update and manually download and
install them---at least till you catch up..
