XP will not start newly installed programmes

I try to install programmes onto my XP workstation and even
though the programmes install correctly, they will not run.

the programmes are Autocad 2002, McAfee vscan 4.5 symantec
antivirus and Mcafee firewall

any ideas

I don't know but you may be causing problems installing two antivirus
programs (why?). Remove one and see what happens or remove both and start
again perhaps.
