XP will not recognize my files.

Hi,

I need help...desperately!!! I got contaminated with a
virus that would not allow anything to happen to my
computer. Long story short, I managed to get Norton to
identify and delete the files, however one of the deleted
files was needed by XCP to run effectively. So what I did
was to re-install XP on my computer and now I have another
problem. Everytime I click on a exe file (eg
winword.exe), I get the following message...

"windows cannot find c:/office/winword/winword.exe..."

I cannot run anything, I cannot even use my CD to re-
install office or even do a cleaner install of XP. I'm
currently dead. Any info would be of great help.

Thanks,

-Pritesh.

Did you do a "repair" install or a full format and install?

I did a repair install, but what I will do now, is to boot
up from my XP CD, and do a complete. This should allow me
to do a clean re-install of XP, and hopefully all will be
well.

Just make sure you back up any data you don't want to lose on the partition
where WinXP will be installed.

When you do that, take New Install, and when it asks where, just take
New install and accept the partition it suggests as a place to put
windows. That will not format the drive but will put XP on again over
the top of the old system. That is not good permanently, but should
allow you to rescue data files to a backup. Then repeat - this time,
when it asks where, hit ESC, select and delete the partition, then make
a new RAW one to be formatted next. That will give a truly clean
install, and you will need to reinstall software - but you now will
hopefully have your data available to restore
