XP Will not install

Hello, all,

I have a newly built machine that refuses to accept an installation of
Windows XP. I am using an MSDN Academic Alliance version of XP and a store
bought Pro version; neither will load. Setup hangs when loading setup files
or, I get a BSOD with the error KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR, and instructions
about replacing or removing hardware or software, along with something about
mountmgr.sys. Then it says to try again. I've read this is usually a
hardware thing, so I've swapped out the CDROM drive, the HDD and the
graphics card with the same results, everything else is integrated into the
MOBO, which is a brand new SOYO with a used Athlon processor. I've used this
processor with the same model SOYO and the same memory sticks in another
machine, no problems. Can anybody help?

Many thanx,

Rip

This was taken from WinXP Stop Errors. I would try connecting the
hard drive on the Primary IDE channel as Master
by itself.
0x0000007A: KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR
(Click to consult the online Win XP Resource Kit article, or see Windows
2000 Professional Resource Kit, p. 1553.)
A page of kernel data was not found in the pagefile and could not be read
into memory. This might be due to incompatible disk or controller drivers,
firmware, or hardware.
a.. Windows NT 4.0 Setup Troubleshooting Guide {KB 126690} NT 4
(Recommendations for the current error message are buried down inside this
article, which isn't necessarily limited to NT 4.)
b.. Connecting a Hard Disk Drive in Slave Only Mode Leads to System Halt
During Resume From Standby {KB 330100} Win XP SP1 (Windows installed on a
slave drive.)

I'm having the same problem with a client's Dell Dimension 8200. It's a P4, 256 MB of Rambus memory (pukes) an 80GB HD, DVDRom, CD Burner, etc. So far, no bad sectors on the HD found, and no memory errors. Continuing to research this. According to UpdateXp.com:

"depleted nonpaged pool resources can cause this error. If the first and third parameters are zero, the stack signature in the kernel stack is missing, an error typically caused by defective hardware. If the I/O status is 0xC0000185 and the paging file is on a SCSI disk, check for cabling and termination issues. An I/O status code of 0xC000009C or 0xC000016A indicates that the requested data could not be found. You can try to correct this by restarting the computer. If a problem with disk integrity exists, Autochk, a program that attempts to mark bad disk sectors as defective so that they are not used in the future, starts automatically. If Autochk fails to run, you can manually perform the integrity check yourself by following the instructions to run Chkdsk provided in "Stop 0x00000024 or NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM" earlier in this appendix.
Another cause of Stop 0x7A messages is defective, malfunctioning, or failed memory hardware, such as memory modules, Level 2 (L2) SRAM cache, or video adapter RAM. If you added new hardware recently, remove and replace it to determine if it is causing or contributing to the problem. Run diagnostics software supplied by the system manufacturer to determine if the component has failed.
Check the hardware manufacturer's Web site for updates to disk adapter firmware or drivers that improve compatibility. Verify that your disks and controller support the same set of advanced features, such as higher transfer rates. If necessary, select a slower transfer rate if an update is not yet available. Consult your hardware or device documentation for more information. "
