XP will not boot or repair

When I try to boot XP I get the following error:
Windows will not start becuase of an error in the software.
Please report this problem as:
load needed DLLs for kernel.
Please contact your support person to report this problem.
I am the support person and have no idea how to fix this. I tried to do an
"install/repair" of XP but it kept encountering DLLs that it either couldn't
delete or couldn't install. I found article 164448 which lists the exac
message but says it only applies to NT. Even still, since I cannot boot at
all (not even in safe mode) Not sure where to go next other than a complete
reinstall.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

I've not had that particular problem before, though I have had my fair share
of... frustating issues. Knowing what changes led up to them may help you.
For example, is this an attempt to place Windows XP upon a machine thats
never run XP before, or if it has run XP before, then what led up to the
failed boot....

Standard questions:

A few details may assist with this, particularly the hardware in your PC -
ie. is it a custom build, in which case (Motherboard type/revision number,
CPU type, Mem type, etc would be helpful). If it's an off-the shelf machine,
then the manufacturer & type id would help.

Additionally:

1. Did the install work beforehand upon this machine ?

a) Yes -> See question #2

b) No :

i) Did it work upon a similarly built machine -> SeeQuestion #2
(I'm assuming it's a work
related problem, rather than a Home PC problem)

ii) If you're sure, that WinXP can be run upon your hardware :

* Restore BIOS settings to Factory defaults & try again.... how
old is your PC...
maybe the battery is flat....

* if that doesn't work remove all additional inteface cards and
try again.

* if that doens't work, then ... (assuming you're using the
onboard motherboard
IDE i/f):

+ you could have a bad copy of the installation s/w
when did you last use it to rebuilt a PC ?

- are you able to install Linux :) upon the problematic
machine ?

There's a chance that the motherboard has failed... in some
weird way that prevents
the installation.

2. Assuming you have other similar PCs with the same build that don' t have
the same problem ?
a) Then what's "different" between them ?
Old-age problem solving technique, break it down to smaller parts.

Have you tried a complete reinstall without success ?

If so, then

(a) assuming you've got data you don't want to loose on the first drive
add a new hard disk - make it the primary boot device & install
windows upon it ?
Did that work ? If so, then you can copy data off the old drive
to the new one.

(b) if you don't need to keep any local data, simply reinstalling
Windows from Scratch with a
full disk format, does this work ?

(3) .... later

Good luck, Hope this helps..
