Hi, I'm trying to update my system from Win 98 to XP and have run into
HP cd rom r/rw driver problems. The old 98 drivers don't work on XP
and new XP drivers for this HP CD R/RW are hard to find. My question
is will Windows NT 4.0, which I can get (or some other version)
drivers work with XP or am I off base thinking that XP and NT systems
may use the same drivers?
You might get lucky with using Win2000 drivers. However, my experience
with cd-rw drives is that you don't need drivers for the hardware, per
se, but that the third-party burning software that originally came with
the drive (whether it is HP's brand or Easy CD Creator or Nero) will
not be compatible. In fact, installing older burning software will
cause a *lot* of problems, so you'll need to buy a new version and
install that. If, OTOH, you really do need drivers for your hardware
and the Win2k ones don't work, a new burner is around $60usd.
