XP User Icon area when starting up

when I start up XP, against my user icon there is a
message which says "unread emails"; this refers to my
hotmail account, but i have read and deleted all emails
in my hotmail account. how do i clear this messsage? and
why does it not clear automatically?

It doesn't work that well, but you can disable it. See:
