XP-USB MAJOR PROBLEM

J

JOSEPH BROGENSKI

Folks,

Can anyone send me the XP USB drivers? Please? I get a
message(error code 39) that the drivers could not load.
Checked MS web site, for error code 39 recommends load a
new set of drivers, old ones may be corrupt. Question is:
Where to get XP USB drivers, besides downloading the
famous SP1. I can't use my USB port or any USB devices.
I feel like I downgraded to XP instead of upgrading from
ME. Another good question is, what are the XP USB
drivers??
Any help is appreciated.

USB 1.1 drivers should be part of XP (pre-SP-1). Try uninstalling the USB
controller(software uninstall from device manager), then re-installing it
(also from device manager). This may provoke XP to get a new copy of
drivers from its cached files.

Plan B, is to check with your motherboard maker (or PC maker) to see whether
newer drivers are available. These would likely be USB 2.0, assuming that
the hardware is USB 2.0.

Plan C is XP SP-1. Actually, you probably should install SP-1 for other
reasons related to security fixes. SP-1 is available from Microsoft on a
CDROM for about $10. It is also available as a free download, but it is a
whopper, and the odds of getting it correctly over a 56K modem are small.

I spent days downloading SP1 over 56K connection only to discover it was
corrupt. Then found it on a free magazine cover disc.
