XP upgrade Win 98

Barb Sobkowiak

I've just upgraded to xp from win 98. The install went well, however,
everytime I turn my computer on the new hardware wizard pops up saying it's
found new hardware (my printer which is installed and working). I've tried
uninstalling the printer and letting the "wizard" install it, but after it
goes through the install, on the reboot it says it's found new hardware
(printer).

My printer is an HP deskjet 3820.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You might try removing the printer and disconnecting it. Go to the HP site
and download the XP drivers. Sometimes the HP drivers have to be installed
before hooking up the hardware. If you let XP try to install the device it
may have problems. Follow the instructions that come with the HP driver.

Hi Barb.

If your printer is a USB printer you should delete the USB hub in yout
device manager. it will be re-installed when you reboot your computer this
should fix the problem. I think getting the XP drivers is probably a good
idea too.
