XP throws me out of a game

This has happened with two different games that were
previously working fine on a Win2K - I play for some time
(anywhere from 10 to 90 minutes) and then the game just
silently closes and I'm at my desktop!

Any ideas why is this happening? I have DirectX 9.0b and
SP1.

What games and when exactly does it happen (ie, online gameplay only, local
gameplay only, etc). Any logs in your event viewer?

It happens during local gameplay in SimCity4 Rush Hour,
for example. It happens in another game as well, but it's
not a widely known game (local market only). And those
are the only two games I ran, so it's a 100% I
couldn't find anything useful in the event viewer,
nothing that would resemble SimCity or anything - it's
all Windows's drivers and programs. Or should I run the
game again and check the event log more carefully, noting
the exact time when it dumped me?
