XP system won't stand-by as per power settings

I have a XPpro SP1 system that refuses to go into stand-by mode as per
the power option settings.

Stand-by works just fine if I go there by Ctl-Alt-Del/Shutdown, so there
doesn't appear to be anything keeping the system from stand-by mode.

I've tried setting various times for stand-by as the Administrator: 15,
30, 45 and 60 minutes. The monitor goes blank by the system refuses to
go into stand-by mode.

Any pointers?

have you check the modem settings of '''allow modem to wake
computer from standby'''

The XP box doesn't have a modem.

I can't get the box to go into standy-by mode through the power
management settings, but it will do stand-by from
ctl-alt-del,shutdown->go to stand-by without any problems.

With the exception of this little problem, the XP box is very stable
and exhibits no other problems.
