I have a laptop which has happily been running xp home for 12 months, with no
issues, then suddenly one day, the laptop won't boot up.

When starting up, I'm getting a UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME message, with the
following codes:

"0x81319A20"

Does anyone know what this means?

I've gone into the recovery console and run chkdsk and fixboot, but this has
had no affect.

I've been able to run knoppix (linux boot cd - no install required), and
using this I can gain access to the HD, and see all the windows files, so I'm
a bit lost.

If I bite the bullet, and do a repair installation, will I be able to
recover the data?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
