xp startup

My xphome sr2 wont start. It starts loading the startup screen, then goes
black and freezes. Even when I try repair it using the install disk, it goes
through the whole repair process, but still wont run.
Any helpful explanations out there?

Does it boot in safe mode (reboot pressing F8 multiple times immediately)?

Try rebooting to F8/F3. I forget the tab to click on ...but go through tabs
to find option "Return system to default settings" (override your custom
preferences which you can set later if you want, I didn't have to) then exit,
say yes to save changes. After, you can put in your Operating System cd and
do repair or check for problems. That worked for me. Good Luck.
